Who's Who?

I chose Titus and Aaron as the Kings because they are ultimately the controlling influences and their respective sides of the board.

Lavinia and Tamora are the Queens, representative of the feminine extremes on either side of the board.

Bassianus, Marcus, and Saturninus are Rooks to signify their political roles in the play.

Lucius, Chiron, and Demetrius are Knights to indicate their active roles in the play and their relationships to the royalty.

The Black Bishop, rather than being a character, is symbolic of the legal machinations of Rome. It is black because it is under the influence of Aaron through Tamora and therefore Saturninus through most of the play.

Less active characters, those whose whole purpose is their death, are Pawns, including two of Titus' sons lost in the war before the action of the play, Alarbus, Mutius, Quintus, Martius, and the Nurse.

You got all that down? Okay, let's do this.
